When trying an adjustable bed in a showroom, identify the mattress and pillow first. Start with the surface flat in your usual sleeping positions, then try head and leg adjustments, stopping and returning to flat according to the model instructions. If two people will use it, recreate your shared routine. Record the configuration, delivery and trial or return terms. Brief comfort while sitting up does not establish long-term suitability.
Identify the exact setup
The same powered base can feel different with a different mattress. Record the full base or integrated-mattress model and the actual mattress, pillow and topper used. A photograph of the remote alone will not identify the mattress included in a quote.
When comparing two bases, keep the mattress, pillow and trial position consistent where compatibility has been confirmed by the seller. Otherwise record the differences rather than attributing a change in feel entirely to the motor or mode.
Start flat in your usual sleeping positions
Return the bed to flat and wait until it stops. If you normally sleep on your side, notice how your shoulder and hip contact the surface; if you normally sleep on your back, use a comparable pillow. Try turning over naturally rather than staying only in the position demonstrated by staff.
Illustrative situation: a buyer enjoys sitting up to read but dislikes the mattress feel when lying flat on their side. Continue checking the mattress pairing instead of using more modes to overlook that concern. This is a hypothetical buying example, not a customer testimonial.
There is no claim here that a fixed number of trial minutes proves suitability. A showroom trial helps identify obvious mismatches and further questions; it cannot replace extended use or a health assessment.
Then test movement and controls
Ask staff to demonstrate starting, stopping and returning to flat using the exact model instructions. Let the intended user hold the remote and try back and leg adjustment as needed. Do not assume a one-touch flat button, release-to-stop operation or independent left and right control.
Notice control readability, practical operation and running sound in the positions you expect to use. Showroom background noise differs from a bedroom, so one demonstration cannot establish silent night-time use. Stop if uncomfortable; the highest angle or every preset is not a target.
Try the shared routine together
Second illustrative situation: one person wants to sit up and read while the other wants to remain flat. Ask the seller to demonstrate which areas on the other side move too, then compare that behaviour with your needs. With both sides flat, try usual positions, turning and the centre area. This example illustrates a buying decision.
For a split setup, also check mattress dimensions, fitted sheets and the centre seam. Split adjustment does not mean no noise, vibration or interaction. When buying for someone else, involve the intended user where possible; your own comfort cannot substitute for theirs.
Turn the visit into a written record
Record five things: the full model and configuration; actual mattress, pillow and topper; flat-surface feel and usual positions; questions about controls, sound and shared use; and the complete quote, delivery and service terms. That is more useful than remembering only that sitting up felt comfortable.
Confirm trial and return terms for the base and mattress separately, including sales channel, region, restrictions after use and transport or collection fees. Get them in writing. A mattress trial does not automatically apply to the whole set. DEPY terms must be confirmed in the actual quotation and written agreement.
