Four questions to confirm before buying
A buying checklist, not a model-specific operating procedure.

Define what is split

Two separate mattresses and bases, a split-head mattress and a shared-motion setup need different checks. Obtain the structure, exact mattress models and independently adjustable zones. A split-head design may require specifically matched bedding. Do not select sheets from a marketing name alone.

Measure each mattress

Record the actual length, width and depth of each side, including the intended protector or bedding arrangement. Check the fitted sheet’s stated size and pocket-depth range. A US split-king example using Twin XL sheets does not define all products or markets. The overall bed width is not enough information.

Check normal movement as well as flat fit

Ask for a demonstration with the proposed mattresses and bedding within the manual’s permitted use. Look for corners slipping, excessive tension, bedding pulling the other side or fabric entering moving areas. A fully split pairing generally calls for separately matched fitted sheets, but any two single sheets are not automatically suitable. Do not use tight bedding to restrain the mattress.

Assess the centre in both situations

In an illustrative paired trial, one person reclines to read and the other stays flat. Then return both sides flat and assess the central surface, normal position changes and bed-making. Mattress edges and the proposed pairing affect personal preference. Independent adjustment does not guarantee an imperceptible gap or no disturbance to a partner.

Check bridges and straps before using them

Filling the centre does not answer every compatibility question. An accessory spanning two mattresses may affect independent movement. Ask the manufacturer to confirm the exact accessory, installation, allowed positions and movement restrictions. An accessory for a fixed bed is not automatically suitable for an adjustable split setup.

Keep a pairing record

Write down the structure, left and right mattress dimensions and depths, fitted-sheet size and pocket depth, independent zones, and approved accessories with their limits. Both intended users should try the pairing. Decide which movements matter and whether the centre feel and bed-making routine are acceptable.
